The fall tour 82 starts wicked rough. Oh man, that poor Crowd in New Orleans. 45 minute first set and no makeup for it in the second set. By the 3rd or 4th show, it gets cookin’ with the Charlottesville one being a particular highlight: best Aiko and yeah, this one’s spelled with an A.

This was my second show and this is certainly an upgrade in sound quality to previous available recordings. Thx Charlie Miller. No recording will do that Phil bomb justice at the beginning of Samson though. He was trying to get started on the building demolition right there and then. The Bob Morris aud is also nice and very full though I found sbd to be a more ear-pleasing listening experience for the second set.

The early West L.A. Fadeaways are arguably their most enjoyable. It’s too bad he stopped singing the penultimate verse; it gives more meat to the song. My 11th grade friends and I were impressed with this one, which of course we didn’t know. We were kind of scratching our heads about the Throwing Stones, as we kind of thought the band was also doing. Good thing we didn’t hear the first version from the night before. I think that one shifted the earth on its axis just a little. This second version is much more solid. I mean, on 9/17 you can practically hear them go “oh, that’s an interesting curveball” as if they were hearing parts of the arrangement, if not the song itself for the first time. They clearly gave the song a few minutes of their time between Portland and North Station because the only thing that throws them is the sudden appearance of the coda after a rest. My friends and I really liked the ashes to ashes part and thought maybe it was a cover because it was so catchy and seemed familiar. There are a few other flubs, notably in the Truckin’ which flounders for a minute. I was just getting into bootlegs and this kind of stuff intrigued me and and endeared me to them. The friends found it a little sloppy and started to drop off the scene after this show. My 12 year old sister dug it though and she’s still going to the shows with me! Somehow I wouldn’t see them again for another year and then I guess I realized that they toured more frequently than I had been aware. I still kick myself over this.

Nice crisp sound..Thanx again Mr. Miller!! The Boston Garden was such a strange, cool old building..It wasn't really built for music..but who cares cause Bean town rocked!! Solid 1st set but what I always go back to this show for is the 2nd set..Listen to Booby before Samson say "Here's a little tune in honor of this building" and ends with "Cause it needs it" Smoking set played with "HIGH" energy! you can feel it..I'm a big fan of It's All Over Now Baby Blue as an encore and nice way to cap off a great show!! so please>GIVE IT A WHIRL>Forever Grateful>Forever Dead..LONG LIVE BEAN TOWN!!

This show is often overlooked because it follows the monster Portland Maine show and the prior recordings sound so flat. Well, no more! CM has brought this mix to life in a big way. The band is feeding off the crowds energy and the mix captures it. Thank you Charlie for your efforts!
